Dishing About Kitchen Appliances

Blenders, steamers, air fryers! Oh, my! It seems like everywhere you look, there’s a new kitchen appliance that’s all the rave, and a must have for everyone. But oftentimes we acquire too many of these fancy foodie tools and eventually run out of storage space, or use our countertops to display them all, which could look like a culinary clutter mess.

JCL Staging & Design dishes on how to keep it chic when it comes to kitchen appliances. Not only with the ones to select, but how to store them and those that deserve to be displayed.

TIP 1: The Have and Have Nots

Obviously, we need a stove and refrigerator. For some, a dishwasher is also a must-have kitchen appliance. But when we start getting into the small appliances, that’s when things could get messy. Remember the three air fryers you received as Christmas gifts? Or the variety of food processors, blenders, and juicers you have stored everywhere? Well, those all have a home, but don’t necessarily have to live all together under one roof. So, think about doing a deep declutter of your kitchen appliances by taking them all out of storage, placing them in full view on your countertops and kitchen table, and going through your inventory to see which items you can part with. Some appliances are multi-functional like that small blender, which could also be used as a food processor.

TIP 2: Storing Options

Think of it as a beautiful dance when you’re organizing your kitchen. Imagine yourself cooking and cleaning up before storing your kitchen appliances, dishes, and utensils. Where do you typically use items? If you have a workstation for prepping foods, store your go-to kitchen appliances around that area. You could also store plastic containers and wraps around this area as well for ease in wrapping leftovers or with your weekly meal prep. Use the dishwasher as your focal point for where you store your dishware and flatware. If they’re close together, it will make loading and unloading the dishwasher that much easier. We’re going for a smooth, classy waltz after all, not two left feet.

TIP 3: Culinary Show-Stoppers

Ovens and refrigerators can add a wow factor to any kitchen whether you’re an aspiring at-home chef or you prefer simple, quick recipes. Consider your unique needs when purchasing these massive kitchen companions. If you have a large family, you may want a large refrigerator to accommodate your groceries. But if you’re rocking solo, you may not need such a huge refrigerator, which could create more space for countertops or even an island with stools. Same idea goes with the stove. Double stoves are great if you’re cooking up meals for lots of people or if you like to entertain. But if you’re a chef for one, two or even three, you could opt in for a modest stove that doesn’t take up all the space in the kitchen and allows for more space to create and inspire your next meal.

When deciding where a kitchen appliance should go, think about landing space. If it’s an appliance that will be on your countertop like a coffee pot or blender, think about leaving space around it so you have room to place items you need for prepping and cooking. A coffee pot can be placed on a nice bamboo place mat to create an invisible boundary for the appliance and a little canister for sweetener as well as some agave, honey, or cinnamon.
